“When you move into an apartment, you cannot start to illuminate every last corner with neon light. If there are no dark corners or hidden niches, your house becomes uninhabitable. Human beings who are trying to self-reflect and explore their innermost being to the last corner become uninhabitable people.”
Werner Herzog, Introspection: Werner Herzog, Psychology Today, July 2005
“The theory of psychoanalysis, becomes a theory of the archive and not only a
theory of memory.”
Jacques Derrida, Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression, 1995
When me and my twin sister were born, my mother bought a VHS camera. In 2018 while I was studying on the concept of home, I went through this huge archive of my childhood’s videotapes and took snapshots as the video was playing. Working on the stills afterwards I came across with memories that I didn’t really have and I became aware of things and situations that myself in the video couldn’t notice. I left this project unfinished.
